19 Research and conceptualize new alternative partial service business models that allow us to offer good design on a cost basis competitive with the current flow of bad design.

We need a model that allows us to enter the existing mass market on a cost basis on a par or better than the status quo. We need a business model that allows us to compete, NOW. Good design alone will not win them over - only more profit, or loss of profit to competitors.

  1. David,
My firm (Larson Brenner Architects) has quite a bit of experience with a reduced services model that has allowed us to gain access to a greater segment of the general population. We do full service projects (8% to 12% fee), but also do reduced scope projects (aprox. 4% fee). We have found that there is a demand for this reduced scope set of services - we even have found a few home builders that want to utilize our services to help themselves create a design niche.

It has taken some time to work out a process that works well - and there are pros and cons. I'll try to expand on that a bit and post something.

PS - I appreciate your efforts and all the thinking you have been doing.

I am going to try delete your lines that discuss specific fees. It is illegal... like federal crime illegal to discuss fee structures in public among profesionals. If cant to it... could you please. thanks,

I look forward to you expanding on your thoughts,

    Thanks again,

    Sincerely,

    Dave
